First a sheet of plywood, a few 1x3's, wood glue and wood screws. I cut the plywood 2ft tall and 77" long, as I have a king sized bed.
I cut the 1x3's accordingly and then glued and screwed to the cut plywood.
Next, I used spray adhesive to add the 1" foam to the plywood, and then stapled a double layer of quilt batting over the foam for a little more cushion and softer edges.
After the batting is stapled securely, I laid out my fabric (3 yards of 60" upholstery/drapery fabric) and stretched it on the floor, making sure there were no wrinkles and stapled that moving from top to bottom and then side to side so the fabric would stretch properly. And that's it! A nice basic headboard for $100 and about two hours of your time. Now that I am feeling motivated, time to really get serious about decorating and finishing the room.
